Dahlonega – February 28, 2009 – April 11, 2009
In Dahlonega, you’ll discover many of the traditional foods grown and prepared in the Appalachian region, from leather britches to apple stack cake. If you visit the historic Smith House for lunch, you’ll find old-fashioned fried chicken and sides, and you’ll be served family-style. Dahlonega’s food is also influenced by Cherokee traditions, and more recently, great Mexican restaurants, such as Pueblo’s, have popped up in the region. Dahlonega became closely associated with gold after the first discoveries there between 1828-1829. The town’s name, derived from the Cherokees, translates to the “color of gold.”
